Thanks to support by Senator Barbara Mikulski, the National Institute of Standards and Technology unveiled details of how their new $10M Cyber Center of Excellence will develop secure information technology products. Launched in February 2012, the Center partners with industry and academia to develop security management solutions for government and business. The five-step process involves engaging businesses; proposing “use cases”; selecting applicable IT components; generating feedback; and implementing cyber prototype solutions. Initially focusing on adopting secure health IT products, the Center will gradually expand. Bill Newhouse, NIST’s Cybersecurity Coordinator, will be a featured panelist at CyberMaryland 2012 and provide additional insight to prospective partners.
